Erykah Badu has a hot video on the Internet. She performs the hit song Window Seat, from her newly released album, New Amerykah Part II: Return of the Ankh, and she strip off her clothes on a public street.
On St. Patrick's Day, March 17, on the street filled with people, including, kids, in Dallas, Texas, on the very street where President John F Kennedy was assassinated, she got naked -- an act of performance art for her latest video? Well, was the stripping necessary? She is a great artist. Some are saying it was done as an expression of her art; others are saying, it was done to draw attention. Whatever.
On Twitter Erykah Badu says that 'Window Seat' is about liberating yourself from layers and layers of skin or demons that are a hindrance to your growth or freedom, or evolution. I wanted to do something that said just that, so I started thinking about shedding, nudity, taking things off in a very artful way."
So far Erykah Badu hasn't been charged. But maybe she could be facing a $2,000 fine and a trip to the slammer for faces up to 180 days for stripping naked on a public street, a class B misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure, or she could be hit with a class A enhanced indecent exposure, which carries a fine of up to $4,000 and up to one year in jail, since there were kids present.
On Twitter Erykah Badu said this about the video shoot: "We had one shot to get it right. We didn't plan the shoot. Too busy lookin for cops and being petrified! I remember Tweeting that day, 'Okay, here goes nothing.' I felt like I was going to do something life threatening...It was St. Patrick's Day in Dallas. I was at the grassy knoll. Although I was thinking one million things as I walked, I didn't see anything...I heard people yelling different things at me but I held my head up and kept moving. There were children there. I prayed they wouldn't be traumatized."
