I heard this great song on V101.1 by singer Randy Wilson

Add Comment

I heard this great song on the Lee and Andrea Morning Show on V101.1 called “Life Goes On”. I thought it was a new song by Luther Vandross but it seemed to have more Soul than I remember him having and then of course I remembered that sadly he is no longer with us. So of course I was insanely curious so I looked online and found out the guy’s name is Randy Wilson and it’s a new single off his album “Up Close And Personal” called “Life Goes On”.  I picked it up off of itunes, here is the link. From what I can tell this is the first single off the album but the album isn’t out yet. I’ll be keeping my eye out for when it comes out because if the rest of the album is as good as this song then I’ll be in heaven

David Icke's Reptilians

David Icke is a fascinating figure.  He began his career as a sports commentator for the BBC, and a Green Party spokesman.  Then after a fateful encounter with a psychic, Icke had a spiritual awakening.

In an interview that was ostensibly to be about something sports-related, Icke announced to the world that "he was the son of God, and predicted that the world would soon be devastated by tidal waves and earthquakes.  From this rapid turnabout, David Icke became one of the most prolific and disturbing futurists in the movement which he dubbed "New Age conspiracism."

Arcade Fire: The Suburbs

It seems like every distinctive band reaches this point. They become so good at delivering a particular sound, even an emotional atmosphere, that they seem to get stuck in a very beautiful rut. Don't get me wrong, Arcade Fire's third studio album The Suburbs is a superb collection of songs that is among this year's best, but it's nothing you haven't heard before if you've listened to the band's other work. Whereas Neon Bible was a clear evolution from the solid groundwork set by Funeral, The Suburbs just feels like half a new idea surrounded by aural comfort food.

Bobby Hebb, R.I.P.

Add Comment

Singer, song writer, Bobby Hebb has died at the age of 72. He is the man who wrote the instant pop standard, the 1966 classic that every body (Cher, Johnny Rivers, Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra with Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, The Four Seasons, the Four Tops, James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Les McCann, Dusty Springfield, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett and Jose Feliciano), have recorded -- the song, "Sunny." Anyone who was/is into the pop music of the last half of the 20th century has heard his music.

The Associated Press reports, Bobby Hebb wrote the song after suffering the loss of his older brother Harold who was killed in a knife fight outside a Nashville nightclub.

Oakland, California has been home to many musicians and musical groups over the years. Arguably the most famous musician to live in the city was Tupac Shakur who was in Oakland from 1988 to 1991. There have been many other rap and R&B artists and groups to live in this gritty bay city as well such as Souls of Mischief, J Stalin, Mistah F.A.B., Hieroglyphics, and Digital Underground.

Justin Bieber to Write Book?

Add Comment

Yesterday, Monday, there was an announcement of big news in the publishing world! No, not another undiscovered until now, some lost masterpiece by the likes of Shakespeare, more important than that to pop culture. The sixteen year-old pop sensation, singer Justin Bieber has signed a big money deal with really, big-time book publisher HarperCollins to write a book.

Can he write? If he can sign his name, he can write. And besides the book will be his memoirs, his autobiography. And it's going to be an illustrated book. And all he has to do is to put pictures of himself, smiling, in the book, write a few captions, and go on the Internet and tell his zillions of little girl fans to buy it, and they will, and it will be a best seller, and in the world of publishing that is all that counts. Period.

American Idiot – Original Broadway Cast Recording

Add Comment

I'm not a huge Green Day fan, but their 2004 magnum opus American Idiot was undeniably brilliant, and while their 2009 follow-up 21st Century Breakdown was not as groundbreaking, it held together quite well on its own right. I had that American Idiot was adapted into a Broadway musical, but my interest wasn't piqued until I heard that the stunning "21 Guns" (off 21st Century Breakdown) was also given the theatrical treatment. My curiosity sufficiently stoked, I decided to check it American Idiot - Original Broadway Cast Recording, and came away very sufficiently impressed.

The Sound of Music Playing at The Muny

Add Comment

Before Julie Andrews made being a nun romantic and fun, The Sound of Music was a live musical enjoyed by children and adults alike. Now through Sunday, St. Louisans can see the performance live at The Muny in Forest Park.

I remember watching The Sound of Music as a child and just being enchanted by Andrews in the film. “A Few of My Favorite Things” is a song I like to hum when I’m in a sticky situation—at the dentist or about to throw up, for example—that seems to make me calm down. (I have no idea why.) Since then, there have been dozens of remakes of the song by artists such as Tori Amos, Luther Vandross, Barbara Streisand, Outkast, and many others; Andrews’ version remains my favorite.
